Sinus Treatments at Texas ENT

The sinuses represent four paired air-filled cavities that surround the eyes. Both the sinus and nasal cavities are lined by a thin layer of tissue called “mucosa” which produces one liter of mucous a day! These cavities, in addition to the mucous produced, provide a variety of important functions such as humidifying, warming, and filtration of air before it enters the lungs. Impaired or altered drainage of this mucus can lead to a variety of sinonasal conditions such as congestion, sinus infections, nasal polyps, and other inflammatory disorders.

Our Services

Our surgeons provide a variety of surgical options that include formal sinus surgery as well as minimally invasive in-office procedures. Each patient will undergo a thorough workup and evaluation leading to a personalized tailored treatment plan based on their conditions. Some of our most popular treatments include:

Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon sinuplasty offers a minimally invasive technique for the treatment of chronic and frequently recurrent sinus disorders. The procedure is commonly performed in-office without the need for general anesthesia, allowing for a quick recovery and return to work and or school. With the use of a low-profile balloon device and endoscope, the sinus drainage pathways are dilated. Offering high success rates and a quick return to activities, balloon sinuplasty is a great treatment option for many forms of sinusitis. Schedule an appointment today with our physicians today to determine if you are a candidate.

Chronic Sinusitis Treatment

Chronic sinusitis is one of the most prevalent chronic illnesses in the United States, affecting nearly 30 million individuals. This condition is defined when symptoms have been present for 12 weeks or more and when findings are confirmed on nasal endoscopy or imaging.

When appropriate medical therapy has failed, our surgeons at Texas Ear, Nose, and Throat can provide you with a variety of treatment options to provide sustained long-term relief.

Septoplasty: Deviated Septum Surgery

The nasal septum is a midline structure that separates the left and right nasal cavities.  It consists of both cartilage and bone, and is covered by a thin lining called the “mucosa”. Many individuals have a deviation of this structure — in some cases multiple leading to nasal airway obstruction and congestion. Our surgeons offer a variety of procedures and minimally invasive techniques to straighten the septum, allowing for optimal breathing through both nasal passages.

Nasal Turbinate Reduction

Turbinate enlargement (also known as “turbinate hypertrophy”) represents one of the most common causes of nasal congestion and obstruction. Nasal turbinates are bony structures inside the nasal cavity lined by soft tissue called the “mucosa”.  Whether due to allergens, irritants, spicy foods, or head positioning, the turbinate can become swollen and inflamed, leading to difficulty breathing through the nose. Our physicians offer an array of surgical and in-office turbinate reduction procedures that can help improve your breathing and provide long-term relief without the need for nasal sprays and medication.

In-Office CT Imaging

Diagnosis of sinusitis and sinonasal disorders can at times be very difficult. Because the sinus cavities can be difficult to fully evaluate from an exam, our offices provide CT imaging, allowing our providers to get a complete view of your sinus and nasal anatomy. This can help diagnose disorders such as nasal polyps, fungal sinusitis, blockage of sinus cavities, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and nasal tumors, among others.

ClariFix

ClariFix is a safe, clinically proven, minimally-invasive treatment that targets the source of sinusitis to provide lasting relief. ClariFix uses cryotherapy, or cold therapy, to interrupt the signals to the nerves, which are communicating to the nose, telling it to swell and drip. This therapy effectively reduces runny, stuffy nose symptoms.

ClariFix Cryotherapy is provided with a local or topical anesthetic. An endoscope is placed into the back of your nose, along with the ClariFix device. This allows access to the back of your nose, where the out-of-balance nerves are located. You will feel slight pressure and minimal discomfort as a cooling probe is used to apply the cold therapy. The procedure takes only a few minutes and requires minimal downtime and recovery.

Other Services

VivAer

VivAer is clinically proven to help patients breathe more easily. During a VivAer treatment, we will place a narrow device in your nose to gently lift the tissue inside your nasal valve area. The device applies temperature-controlled radiofrequency to help improve airflow and open your nasal airways, which allows you to breathe more freely. The radiofrequency technology gently remodels the narrow parts of your nasal airway, which opens them to allow better airflow for breathing and improved quality of sleep. Patients can return to their usual activities after their treatment, as it requires no downtime.

RhinAer

The RhinAer procedure uses low-temperature radiofrequency energy to disrupt the nerve fibers that trigger a runny nose. The RhinAer procedure involves placing a small, flexible tube into the nasal passageway through a nostril. The tube is maneuvered into place by your doctor. Once in place, it emits radiofrequency energy to treat the nerve fibers so that they no longer send signals to cause congestion and runny nose.

The RhinAer procedure has been clinically proven to improve symptoms in 96% of patients. It is minimally invasive, requires no downtime, and allows patients to return to their usual activities on the same day.

Symptoms of Sinusitis

Recurrent and or chronic inflammation of the sinus cavities can at times be quite debilitating for those who are suffering. Symptoms include facial pressure or pain, congestion, nasal obstruction, loss of smell and taste, runny nose, throat irritation, headaches, and more. When untreated, this can have a significant impact on quality of life, with some studies even demonstrating a strong association with mood disorders such as depression.
