Dr. Yamileth Nicolau is a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery.  After her residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in Panama, she was accepted as a Research Fellow at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.  She conducted her own genetics project winning an award from the American Society of Pediatric ENT and produced many publications while collaborating in the laboratory including in the New England Journal of Medicine.  She then continued to complete her US Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Residency at the University of California San Diego.  Dr. Nicolau provides professional and expert care, she listens carefully and offers compassionate management to her patients like she would family.  She has the training and experience to manage general Otolaryngology pathologies and keeps up to date with the latest technology and surgical procedures.  She has particular interest in the management of sinonasal disease including minimally invasive procedures, such as balloon sinuplasty, nasal obstruction, allergies, thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Provider Biography

Dr. Yamileth Nicolau was born in the country of Panama. When she was a teenager, she lived in Colombia, Puerto Rico, and throughout Panama due to her father’s executive career relocations. She is completely fluent in both English and Spanish. During her high school senior year, she was chosen to go to Washington D.C. as part of the Presidential Classroom. She graduated first in her class and received the Academic Achievement Award signed by President George H. W. Bush. She attended medical school in Panama and graduated second in her class.

Upon graduation, Dr. Nicolau then completed her Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency in Panama, which included a four-month rotation at Texas Children’s Hospital.  She also completed a one-month clinical rotation in Galveston at UTMB. Upon completing her residency, she moved to Boston, having been accepted as a Research Fellow at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.  She conducted her own genetics project traveling to remote areas in Ecuador and won an award for her research from the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology.  During her years in Boston, she collaborated and produced many publications, including in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Nicolau completed her US Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of California San Diego.  During her first year at UCSD, she was chosen as Emergency Medicine intern of the year, an important recognition as the interns from all specialties rotate through the ER.  
She is proud to be able to serve the people of Houston. For all her medical and surgical skills, her ability to relate to each of her patients on a personal level, and being part of the wonderful team at Texas ENT specialists is what makes the difference.

Dr. Nicolau manages all the areas of the specialty in kids and adults.  She has a particular interest in the medical and surgical treatment of sinus disease, image-guided sinus surgery, minimally invasive in-office procedures including balloon sinuplasty, management of nasal obstruction and allergies, minimally invasive thyroid, and parathyroid surgery. 

Dr. Nicolau is married and is blessed with a beautiful daughter. As a former dancer, she enjoys practicing aerial silks and loves outdoor activities with her family including kiteboarding, wakeboarding, and e-foiling.
